Measurement of the strains induced upon thermal oxidation of an alumina-forming alloy

چکیده
The mechanisms that govern the formation of a thermally grown alumina on Al-containing super-alloys has been the subject of much recent speculation, because of the key influence of this oxide on the durability of thermal barrier systems for gas turbines. Among the important issues to be resolved are the location of the new oxide growth (interface, surface or internal grain boundary), the strains induced by the growth on non-planar surfaces and the associated stresses. To address some of the uncertainties, an experimental probe is designed. The experiments are based on the curvature changes, , that occur on curved thin foils, caused by differences in strain accommodation on convex and concave surfaces. Experiments performed on thin FeCrAlY foils provide a vivid illustration of the strains induced upon growth, demonstrating a large increase in the radius of curvature upon oxidation. The sign and magnitude of the changes affirm that most of the new oxide forms at the interface. 2003 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Formation and Evaluation of Oxidation Behavior of Zirconia- Aluminide Coating on Nickel- Based Alloy
Practical applications of thermal barrier coatings with aluminide bond-coats are limited due to oxide scale spallation of the aluminide coating under applied thermal stresses. Considering the positive effects of oxygen-active elements or their oxides on the high temperature oxidation behavior, in this research zirconia was introduced into an aluminide coating. For this purpose, a Watts type bat...

متن کاملHigh Temperature Erosion- Oxidation Behavior of Nickel- Based Alloys Containing Mo in Fluidized Bed Waste Incineration
High-temperature erosion-oxidation behavior of nickel-based alloys containing 0-7 wt.% Mo in fluidized bed waste incineration conditions was studied. A stream of hot condensed air with a flow rate of 25 L/min caused hot silica sand (700 °C) mixed with 0.5 wt.% of chloride salts to hit the specimens for 250 h. By removing the erosive factor, the high-temperature oxidation behavior of the alloys ...

Aluminum sulfate nano structures have been prepared by solution combustion synthesis using aluminum nitrate nonahydrate (Al(NO3)3.9H2O) and ammonium sulfate ((NH4)2SO4). The resultant aluminum sulfate nano structures were calcined at different temperatures to study thermal decomposition of aluminum sulfate. The crystallinity and phase of the as-synthesized and calcined samples were char...
